Bleasdale seen from Winny Bank |
The weather being forecast as warm I set off for Delph Lane. I intended to take the road as far as Holme House and then the path up along Winny Bank to Fiendsdale Head and return over the top to Stang Yule. I can't find my walking pole and I may have left it at the cairn on Hazelhurst on my last visit there.

The overgrown lane leading up to the intake wall |
The path from the motor
road up to the intake wall below Hazelhurst Fell has been overgrown for decades
and walkers simply climb the field alongside it. Unfortunately at the stile a
notice announced that Open Access, apart from the public footpaths, was
temporarily closed. There have been some moorland fires recently, and the fell
is sometimes used by shooting parties. I decided to go as far as the pass and
then turn back and leave the search for the pole till a later day.

Only the public path on Winny bank was open |
I got as far as the cairn on Winny Bank, which looks as though it has been rebuilt in a more sturdy manner, and sat to enjoy the view. I no longer felt like toiling up to the pass.
A walker who had come over Parlick and Fair Snape joined me and we had a pleasant chat about walking. He mentioned the crash sites on the fells and this led to discussions of RAF records and he encouraged me to check the Internet to find out my Dad's service. I am doubtful that there will be anything but he was adamant there would be. The snag is I can't remember the site's name!

Fair Snape Fell and Parlick |
I walked down to the road with him, where he turned left to make his long way back to the foot of Parlick. I continued along the road towards Hazelhurst and took photos of the logs that have been piled up since the storm in May.

Several piles of wood await collection |
