Raven Crag (1512') |
First to Raven Crag, which Andrew climbed and I didn't. He also got a photo of the crag in the sun which I missed because I left the camera in the car! I went back for it but by then the sun from over Helvellyn was cloud-covered. Just my luck. I climbed almost to half way up beyond the top forest road but no further because I would have met Andrew coming down.

Then we parked at a lay-by on the main Keswick road near Castlerigg Stone Circle. Had we checked a signpost opposite we could have saved a tarmac walk along the busy highway. My fault. We took the side road towards Rakefoot and then the path, quite busy with walkers, which leads to Walla Crag and Bleaberry Fell. Andrew walked along the edge path to the crag. I didn't like the look of it so I went round by the wall and we met at the summit cairn, where Andrew tossed embarrassment to the winds on this his final fell and shouted his Banzai for all Lakeland to hear!
BANZAI! |
It was a shame that the sun was too shy to share his achievement, as the view from Walla Crag is one of the best. We celebrated with a Wainwright beer and our usual lunch.

It only remained for Andrew to be presented with his 214 Fells badge - all climbed within five years!
We also visited the Castlerigg Stone Circle. It's always difficult to take photos of monuments without including other visitors.
