Whitbarrow (706')

You can find an index to my other walks here

A very good day walking on Whitbarrow with Andrew. Sunny and warm on the top but with a cooling breeze, it was such a pleasant change from last week's walk on Garburn Road.

The view towards Witherslack

It's easy to see the prevailing wind direction here!
Lord's Seat: Summit of Whitbarrow Scar
The directions AW gives are not really adequate especially after the summit of Lord's Seat. There is no good path directly from the cairn and we went too far over on the right. But we eventually got to the cross wall and there in warm sun had our lunch.
We missed the mine adit AW mentions. There is a steep and stony drop down to the wood in the valley, and a rather tiring plod along the road until one reaches Witherslack Hall School. It appears well maintained, and is possibly a school for boys who have been in trouble.
From there we took the path through the wood to Beck Head, which appeared to be in the process of being cleared of too much vegetation.

Back quite early for a change.
