Cloudy at seven
o’clock, but a good forecast for the day. Therefore on the M6 north of
Lancaster we had torrential rain, and throughout the day showers, winds, very
little blue sky and virtually no sunshine until we were returning on the
motorway. Then it was sunny all the way home, where it had been the same for most of the
day.

Garburn Road junction above Troutbeck |
Still, it was a good
walk, along the lane to Garburn summit and a little way up the path towards
Yoke. The conditions were good for photography.

A superb view up the valley to Troutbeck Tongue |
We
then dropped down to the pass again and returned via Sallows and Sour Howes.

I
must check the date when I first used the rocky ridge down to the
lane. I christened it Dinosaur Ridge because of its (very faint) resemblance to the back bone of such a creature... AW does show it, but Chris Jesty has it going off to a stile near the
lane junction before reaching the end whereas it's better to continue along the
ridge to the gate and stile near it.

Some beautiful scenery, in very different from the conditions on 24 March this year. The post for that walk can be found under the heading
Garburn Road to its summit below Yoke elsewhere in this blog. The dates given in the posts list are, unfortunately, the dates of the
posts, not the actual walks.
