You can find an index to my other walks here
After lunch at about two o’clock decided to go dressed as I was, with just boots and no other equipment, to Nicky Nook. (After all, Wordsworth, when a boy at Hawkshead, wandered for miles wearing just what he was standing up in).
I went up the zig-zag way I found some months ago, which had become almost hidden by warm, scented high bracken. There was a feeling of comfort and welcome in the heavily wooded area.
After resting a while at the stone seat, with marvellous views over the whole Fylde, I continued to the top of the fell. How impressive the sudden revelation of the Bowland Fells as I neared the trig column ! They were so clear, so pristine.
Half way down the steps above the reservoir I sat for a while, admiring the view, using my small binoculars.
Later when I reached the track by the reservoir, being slightly downhill I could stride out properly. It felt great! As I approached the gate at the end of the valley it suddenly occurred to me that my feet were almost finding their own way without thought from me as they had done that day some time ago on descending from Grizedale Tarn near Grasmere - and then I suddenly became aware of the coincidence of the names!
As I neared Slean End I went in search of the seat commemorating Vicki-Lynn, a girlof fourteen. The simple rhyme forms a really touching memorial. I wonder who she was?
