Fair Snape and Parlick

A sunny, balmy day at last after so much cloud and rain! Although it was after lunch I decided to go up over Hazelhurst Fell with my Meindl shoes on for speed and lightweight walking. I left the car at around 2:15.
It was great to walk quickly and effortlessly up the track by the wall from Stang Yule, and there was a wonderful feeling of joy on what felt like a mid-May spring day. I stopped to take a photo over the Fylde.

The Fylde coast and Morecambe Bay

I continued to the fell track where the direction board has been on its back for many years, wondering yet again if it were possible to set it up again. I walked further up to the viewpoint on the right over Bleasdale with the lovely views of Fair Snape and Parlick. I then crossed over to the thin path, now almost hidden by newly-growing heather, and reached 'my' cairn, still standing tall and firm.

Standing tall and firm

A little way over to the right I noticed something flashing in the sunlight and went to investigate. It was perhaps the remains of a silver balloon, and it had a long coloured tape attached. I put it in my bag and returned to the track.
I was about to continue my walk when I realised I no longer had my walking pole. I checked first at the viewpoint: no pole. I didn't go to my cairn because I felt certain I didn't have it at the time I had been there just a few minutes before and that I would have to go down to where I had stopped either at the direction board or where I had taken a photo. But it wasn't at either place!
I was still feeling very loose and fit, so up I went again to the cairn, this time directly from the notice board. There was no pole visible at the cairn and I was just going to check where I had found the silver balloon when I spied the pole almost hidden amongst the heather behind the cairn. What a relief! But also what a pity I hadn't checked the cairn earlier.

'We'll keep an eye on the cairn for you.'

There was an exhilarating feeling all the time on the walk, and I found the warm air and the sunshine such a welcome change from prolonged wet and grey conditions. I sat for a fewEasy Stroll minutes enjoying the place and the view.
A very good afternoon, which I shall remember with great pleasure.
