Moss Eccles Tarn

Andrew and I set off on a morning where in Preston there was quite a bit of cloud, and we hit some heavy rain on the M6, but by the time we reached the Lake District it was certain that, for the next few hours at least, we would have clear skies, little wind, and sunshine.
And so it proved all day, once more in direct contrast to the Met Office forecast. We made our way from Far Sawrey up towards the beautiful Moss Eccles Tarn where we took many photos.
Moss Eccles Tarn is quite large

Some old guy who just wouldn't move

Andrew, after no walks for over a month, was quite happy to adapt to my slow meandering walk exploring the area of Claife Heights.

Wise-Een Tarn

Scale Tarn, where we stopped for a snack

Way-finding became a little uncertain because of forest areas being cleared. But we knew we were welcome!

Navigation problems!

However, using AW's directions and the OS map we found the the delightful rock-garden of the summit with its Trig Column.

Banzai!

We stopped there for lunch in the warm sunshine, and chatted with another walker who, although familiar with most of the Heights area, had never before been able to discover the summit! I have to confess that my only previous visit with Colin on 24 November 1979 had not taken in the summit, but, although not recorded in my notes, we had seen one tarn, probably Moss Eccles.

On our return to Far Sawrey we celebrated with a good pint on a pleasant seat outside the local. Then it was time to set off back home, where we were not in time to have a proper meal before we both went to the Wesleyan Church at Freckleton to listen to Peter Shakeshaft's lecture 'Voices of Freckleton'.
            A very enjoyable day.
