Ogden Reservoir, Haslingden Grane |
Rather late in the morning I set off for Clough Head Cafe to see if any of my books had been bought; also to check if the wrong way marker below Musbury Heights which I complained about to the County Authorities had been corrected. No books sold, and the way markers still wrong! (See below).
In contrast to the weather in Preston, there was warm sun, which made the walk really pleasant.

Position of offending signpost |

Looking east |
As one approaches the signpost from the west, both the white arrow carved into the top of the post, and the yellow plastic one beneath it, clearly indicate the Rossendale Way to be along the lower of the two paths. The other yellow arrow points up the hill, which is the Rossendale Way, but with no information as to where the path leads.

Looking west from the upper path (the RW) |
Click the image to have a clearer view of the scene. From the upper path, two yellow arrows are seen on the signpost. The one pointing upper left leads along the RW. The other one, pointing upper right, as it does, indicates a pathless route direct to Ogden Reservoir in which it is forbidden, and dangerous, to enter (R.I.P.) In spite of my having informed Lancashire County Council about this error three times, nothing has yet (see date above) been done to correct it. Watch this blog!

The many paths on the slopes below Musbury Heights |
I walked back along the RW which passes along the hillside above the reservoirs. After talking to a lady with a Scottie dog (what else?) I decided to explore the path up the slope indicated by the Peak and Northern signpost as leading to Edgworth. I didn't go all the way! but I was rewarded by some splendid views. I then walked down to the head of the reservoir and returned to the cafe via Ormerods and Hartley House.
