Altered a little

At last – a day with a gentle breeze under a blue sky and sunshine. As soon as I could be ready I set off for Delph Lane and parked in the lay-by. I then decided which way to go round the circuit and chose the permissive route over the fell.
I was a little slow at first because it’s a month since my last walk with Andrew, but I got going up the grouse road and met a man on a quadcycle coming down. He turned out to be one of the friendly farmers from Holme House. He told me that it was they who manage Hazelhurst land as well as Holme House.

Many sheep on the fell

We chatted for a pleasant fifteen minutes, and then I set off again and crossed to my cairn. Someone had put two over-large stones on the top, so I took them off and re-instated my little pointed one which I think I put on last time I was there.
I accidentally omitted crossing over to the viewpoint, and went on to the summit of the road. There I saw that there were many more sheep on the fells than I had seen for some time. The farmer had told me they were all hefted* to the fell so they must have been there every time I walked that way but possibly in a dip out of sight.

Old paths & tracks to explore

I tried to see if I could access the lower path in the Gulley of Clough Heads Brook but when I went down the old disused path as on my last visit I couldn't locate it. So I contoured along to the access point on the Right of Way and walked slowly back along the road to the car.

A very pleasant day in the first real sunshine and calmness for some time, although the ground was very wet.
