Summit of Moughton

The sky looked reasonably calm and not too grey. The forecast was for grey sky all day virtually everywhere. However, as Andrew and I reached Wharfe the sun was shining, the sky was blue, and there was hardly any wind. In short, we had a wonderful day, starting in Wharfe and ascending Moughton by Studrigg Scar.

We've both been here before

We then made for the edge path where we stopped for more photos at the shelter resembling a chair.

The Chair - but not on Red Pike

We walked past the amphitheatre-like area and on to the path that runs along the edge of the scar.

How old is that sheepfold?

Such a lovely area

We stopped for lunch at the cairn on Moughton Scars, warm in the sun. A number of people passed by, and we saw others who had come up from Horton. The air was warm and it was really like a spring day again, as on Thursday: a little better, in fact. So much for the weather forecast.
We tottered along the clints to Beggars Stile, and then up over Thieves Moss to Sulber Gate, where we stopped again for a snack. Two boys arrived on bikes, stopped for a while to gaze over the limestone pavement, and then went on their way. I was reminded of the time when two boys came over the fells to practise on their musical instruments on a very cold 25 January 2003! I wonder what they are doing now, almost in their thirties?

Mandolin and guitar players at Sulber Gate

We set off along the broad path to Long Scar, and after stopping for some photos headed down to Crummack. It was easy to pass the huge puddle I had avoided three days before, as it had shrunk somewhat, and then we stopped again at the Wash Dub Field. I was surprised to see there a fresh notice board with information about the sheep dipping, which must have been put in place since Thursday. Good to see.

Cold wetting work for those farmers

We then set off down White Stone Lane (the name written on Andrew's map) and passed in front of the little house and greeted the lady who had given me the drink of raspberry cordial three days ago. Yet another lovely day in one of my favourite regions.
