Rough Crag (c.1900')

Riggindale

The Lake District again! An eight o'clock start for Mardale in Andrew's car. Weather forecast average but wrong again - in fact a beautiful, warm sunny day with blue sky and a gentle breeze. We climbed along Rough Crag where Andrew suggested I should abandon my pole which I had become too used to. It made a difference, and I was able to get along more quickly on the Rough ascent (joke).

This guy seems to get in all my photos. Who is he?

Caspel Gate, Long Stile, and High Street

We debated as to whether to continue on past Caspel Gate, but I was a little fearful of the ice and snow on Long Stile. I suggested Andrew go on up to High Street and return to the valley over Kidsty Pike. He didn't want us to split up so instead we dropped down to Blea Water.

As it had disappointed Andrew missing the ascent to High Street I couldn't renege on my promise to try and locate the British Hill Fort on the lower slopes of High Raise above Flakehow Crags. The extra pull over The Rigg for the second time and on to the slopes of  High Raise was very tiring. We didn't reach the fort as it was just that far up the steep pathless fellside and it was getting late. We didn’t set off back from the car park till it was turned six and getting dark. I regret we didn’t tackle Long Stile as we would probably have been able to locate the fort on the way down after passing over Kidsty Pike.

Sorry, Andrew.
