Kilnsey

Thu 27 Mar 2014

Andrew picked me up at 9 o'clock and we met Colin and his brother John in Kilnsey, near Grassington, bang on 10:30. John organises a Yorkshire Dales walk each year. The weather was pleasant though cold, with a little sun, as we set off up the hill behind the pub.

Andrew had forgotten his jacket! (He won't be able to make comments about my leaving things behind now).

The start

The walk took us along part of the well-known Mastiles Lane which has been used by drovers over the centuries. The weather worsened and it started to rain just as we stopped for lunch. It was driving at us when we set off again, with sleet too, and we were soon wet. But Andrew, who had a thin jumper of mine underneath a thick wool one, actually looked to be the driest of the four of us! But of course he had no protection against the cold wind. On our way back we passed by an old settlement and field system we hadn't noticed on the way out.

The return

We were back before four, and it was too cold to stand about so we set off back home.
